Gianluigi Buffon has announced his retirement from active playing at age 45 years old, MySportDab reports.
The Legendary goalkeeper has decided on ending things on his active playing career in football after full consideration.
Gianluigi Buffon was one of the biggest and best goalkeepers during his active days which was mostly in Italy.
His retirement did not come as a shock with so many already expecting him to end things a long time ago.
The Italian goalkeeper had a storied career that spanned over two decades, winning numerous trophies with Juventus, Parma, and the Italian national team.
Buffon made his professional debut in 1995 with Parma, where he won the Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.
He moved to Juventus in 2001 and quickly established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
With Juventus, Buffon won nine Serie A titles, six Coppa Italia titles, and the UEFA Champions League in 2003. He also won the FIFA World Cup with Italy in 2006.
After 17 seasons with Juventus, Buffon left the club in 2018 to join Paris Saint-Germain.
He spent two seasons with PSG, winning the Ligue 1 title in 2019. In 2021, Buffon returned to Juventus for a one-season stint before announcing his retirement.
Buffon is contemplated as one of the extraordinary goalkeepers of all time. He is the most capped player in Italian history, with 176 appearances for the national team.
He is also the oldest goalkeeper to play in a UEFA Champions League final, at the age of 40.
