South Africa have been knocked out of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup by Netherlands, MySportDab reports.

First Half Report

After a late strike by Kgatlana against Italy saw the Bayana Bayana sealed a place in round 16 of the 2023 FIFA World Cup, the African representative were set for a showdown with Netherlands.

Against the Dutch, it was a strong showing by South Africa but Netherlands were the batter side from the start of the game.

They dominated proceedings and were looking set to grab a win as South Africa struggled to match the pace, press, and possession of the European contingents.

Netherlands took a quick lead in the game just 9 minutes into kickoff with Roord putting the Dutch ahead.

South Africa attempted a comeback, fighting hard to find the leveler without a breakthrough as they finally settled for a first half defeat, trailing by the lone goal.

Second Half Report

Netherlands still had their way in the second half of the game and were dominant but had less attempts than the South Africans.

The Bayana Bayana pulled a stunning second half display, leveraging on fast-paced counter attacks when having the ball to threaten the Dutch defense.

They came across a slew of chances to find a leveler but could not make it count.

In the 68th minute, Beerensteyn strike dealt a fatal blow to South Africa’s comeback as the Dutch extended the lead to boost their chances of sealing quarterfinal ticket.

The Bayana Bayana mounted a ferocious attempt to restore comeback hopes but to no avail as they finally settle for a 2-0 defeat after the final whistle, becoming the first African country to be knocked out of the tournament.
