Oliseh Praises Extra Super Falcons Despite Heartbreaking Exit

The Super Falcons of Nigeria put on an impressive display in the round of 16 clash against England, but unfortunately suffered a heartbreaking 4-2 defeat in a penalty shootout.

Former Nigeria international and football icon, Sunday Oliseh, expressed his disappointment but also lauded the team’s resilience and dedication on the pitch.

After a gripping 120 minutes of football, the match concluded goalless, showcasing the tenacity of both sides.

With only three minutes remaining in extra time, England’s Lauren James was shown a red card, yet the Three Lionesses managed to hold on and force the game into spot kicks.

The tension-filled penalty shootout saw substitute Desire Oparanozie and Michelle Alozie miss their attempts for the Falcons, while Rasheedat Ajibade and Christy Ucheibe successfully found the back of the net.

On the other hand, England displayed composure, converting all four of their penalty kicks to seal their victory and advance to the next stage of the tournament.

Despite the devastating loss, Sunday Oliseh, a decorated player himself, praised the Nigerian players for their extraordinary efforts and resilience on the world stage.

He hailed them as the “Extra Super” Falcons, acknowledging their determination to elevate Nigerian football in the global arena.

Oliseh also highlighted the challenges and mistreatment the team faced, making their achievement even more remarkable.

Nigeria’s best performance in the Women’s World Cup remains the 1999 edition, where they reached the quarter-finals in the USA.

In the 2019 edition in France, they made it to the round of 16 before falling to Germany in a 3-0 defeat.

As the tournament progresses, the world witnesses the exceptional skill and spirit of the women’s teams, including the courageous display from the Super Falcons.

Despite the exit from the 2023 Women’s World Cup, Nigeria’s football fans and enthusiasts globally will cherish the team’s valiant efforts and look forward to their continued growth in the sport.
