Erik Ten Hag Defends Onana, BLASTS Man United Defenders For Bayern Defeat

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has blamed the club’s Champions League defeat on defenders but defends Andre Onana, MySportDab reports.

Manchester United’s nightmare start to the season continued at Allianz Arena in Germany as the club stumbled to a 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich in their Champions League opener.

Leroy Sane opened the scoring for Bayern Munich early in the game no thanks to Andre Onana’s howler that allowed the ball slipped through him.

English-born Germany international, Jamaal Musiala was on target for Bayern Munich for the second goal as he easily paced through Manchester United defenders to double the lead for the Bavarians.

The home side went into the break with the two-goal lead as United set out for another defeat – their fourth this season.

Early in the second half, Rasmus Hojlund scored his first Manchester United goal to reduce the deficit and offer a lifeline for a possible come-back for the Red Devils but Bayern Munich extended the lead again after United conceded a controversial penalty and Harry Kane converted it with ease.

Casemiro stuck again for Manchester United to reduce the deficit again but Bayern Munich extended the lead late in the game to make it 4-2.

Casemiro bagged his first brace for Manchester United heading home Bruno Fernandes’ freekick in injury time to make it 4-3 but the game was far spent for the Red Devils to find an equaliser.

Bayern Munich ran out with a narrow 4-3 win as United’s nightmare start to the season continues.

Reacting to the defeat in post match press conference, Erik Ten Hag heaped blame on Manchester United defenders for conceding cheap goals but defended Andre Onana.

He said;

“I’m] disappointed and when you score three goals in Munich, at the least you have to take a point and we didn’t. And you have to look in the mirror because the goals were easy giveaways.

”We were, in the first 25 minutes, better in the game than Munich and then that goal, it was so easy and it was not only Andre. If you see how easy Sane is going through and that has to do with determination, you don’t let players through so easy.”

Erik Ten Hag also absolved Andre Onana of any blame in the buildup to the opening goal, insisting United defenders would have done more to stop Luis Sane.

”Of course, he [Onana] knows he has to stop the ball but the way Sane came through can’t be. And the second goal; it’s almost similar over the other side. How easy players come through our box and to finish, it can’t be,” he said.

Manchester United will travel to take on Burnley in the Premier League in their next and will be hoping to reverse this nightmare start to the campaign.
