Manchester United were set to renew Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s contract but the move is now stalled, MySportDab reports.
Erik ten Hag was keen on renewing the deal of the prolific right-back following his brilliant outing with the club.
Talks on renewal were on the fast lane as per reports from sources close to the club but as at the time of filing this report, it has been confirmed United have put things on hold for now.
According to The Mail, United are exploring alternatives to retain Aaron Wan-Bissaka for an understudy before he could be asked to put pen to paper for a new deal.
With the January transfer window at the corner, the Mail reports Man United are opting for a one-year extension for Wan-Bissaka to buy time and study the player before settling for talks for a new deal.
The one-year contract extension will also tie the player to the club for the next 12 months and deter interests from suitors in January.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka was among Man United players whose contract were set to expire at the end of this term with the likes Anthony Martial also on the list.
Other sources close to Manchester United have revealed the club are hoping to resume contract talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka as early as January after Christmas Eve if all goes to plan.
Wan-Bissaka has improved under Erik ten Hag and was regular starter at right-back before being struck with an injury.
He has missed weeks of action for the club but is back to training and will be hoping to continue with his elite level performance as he makes a return from the sidelines.
Elsewhere, Anthony Martial is facing an uncertain future at Manchester United after an underwhelming campaign riddle with injuries.
No contract renewal or extension plan is on the table for Martial with his contract expiring at the end of this season.
Hence, he will be free to enter into transfer talks with clubs interested in signing him in January.
