FT: Newcastle United 0-1 Borussia Dortmund, Magpies Suffer Defeat! [VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]

Newcastle United have suffered their first defeat after three matches in the Champions League, MySportDab reports.

The Magpies have been humbled by German giants Borussia Dortmund in front of their home fans at St James Park.

The Eddie Howe-led boys went into the game on the back of a strong performance against Ligue 1 champions PSG at the same venue.

It was a rout as they hammered the experienced Champions League side 4-0 to continue with their unbeaten start to a group that has been termed as the group of death.

They needed a win against Borussia Dortmund to etch close to a chance of qualifying to the next round of the knockout with the tight competition in the group.

However, it was not to be as Borussia Dortmund prevailed against the Champions League newbies. A lone goal by Nmecha just at the end of the first half was enough to hand the Bundesliga giants a win.

Newcastle United were the better side in the game but squandered a slew of clear-cut chances that would have overturned the game.

Dominating proceedings and wielding enough possession, the Magpies were less clinical on the finishing and were vulnerable when Borussia Dortmund broke on counters.

After trailing by a lone goal in the first half, they had enough time and possession to overturn the result and complete a turnaround but Dortmund kept them at bare.

After countless attempt to nailed home an equaliser, the match finally ended with Borussia Dortmund running out with a win to boost their chances of making it to the next round.

The defeat to Newcastle United leaves the group widely open with PSG leading by 6 points while the English drops to second with 4 points separated from Borussia Dortmund with similar points but with a superior goal difference.

AC Milan sits bottom of the group with 2 points after they suffered a 3-0 defeat to PSG in Paris.

Newcastle United next travel to Germany for a return fixture against Dortmund while AC Milan will host PSG.
