Despite playing away from home, Barcelona still had a firm grasp of proceedings going forward.
They recorded more attempts than the home side and were threatening when charging forward on the attack.
It was still goalless between the two sides but Barcelona were finally able to make their dominant performance count just before the first half break.
Ferran Torres fired the Catalan giants ahead in the stoppage time of the first half to take the away side into the break with the lead.
Porto ramped up attempts to find an equaliser in the second half but could not make anything happen as Barcelona held onto the lead.
Both sides came across a slew of chances that would have added to the scoreline but it all ended barren at the end of the second half before the blast of the final whistle.
In stoppage time, Gavi was sent off with a red and will miss Barcelona’s next clash but it was a deserved win for the Laliga Champions who made it two wins out of two Champions League start.
They will next face Shakhtar Donetsk in matchday 3 clash.
