Manchester United have taken a decision on whether to extend Hannibal Mejbri’s contract or not, MySportDab reports.
Mejbri’s contract with Manchester United was expected to run out at the end of the current campaign.
His future at Manchester United was uncertain with just few months remaining to the end of his deal.
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are not ready to part ways with Hannibal Mejbri when his contract expires next summer.
Hannibal Mejbri has an extension clause in his deal with Manchester United and the club are ready to extend his deal by triggering the one-year extension clause, as per the report.
United would have aimed for an outright new contract extension for Mejbri but sources close to the club have revealed Erik ten Hag is far from convinced on the qualities of the player and how he could fit into his evolving style.
Hence, the decision to trigger his contract serves a double role of helping ten Hag reappraise the player for another twelve months while keeping off suitors who may want to throw their weight on signing him.
Mejbri is one of the promising Man United youngsters but has struggled for a first team role at Manchester United.
He was loaned out to Birmingham City in English second division where he made 41 appearances for the club before returning to Old Trafford last season.
Under Erik ten Hag, he was won 4 caps to his belt and recorded his first goal for the club, scoring a consolation goal against Brighton in the Premier League.
With an extension clause set to be triggered in his contract, he will hope to impress the new manager and compete for a regular starting role at the club.
Elsewhere, other Manchester United players whose contract will run out at the end of the season are Victor Lindelof, Anthony Martial, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Wan-Bissaka and Lindelof’s contract are set be extended by the club but Martial’s future is still uncertain.
