Andre Onana Breaks Silence On His High-profile Errors In Manchester United

Andre Onana has broken his silence on his high-profile at Manchester United, MySportDab reports.

Onana replaced Manchester United legend and ex-goalie David de Gea as Man United first-choice goalkeeper.

His performance has been a far cry from David de Gea’s with some fans already questioning his signing by the Erik ten Hag.

The Cameroonian shotstopper has come under frequent criticism for his subpar delivery during matches.

He has started all Man United Premier League and Champions League matches, and has recorded only 8 cleansheets in 28 matches.

Andre Onana conceded double digit number of goals in his first four matches for United. He was also bashed by pundits for Manchester United’s exit from the Champions League in the group stage.

Onana conceded 7 goals in his first two Champions League matches, 4 against Bayern Munich, and 3 against Galatasaray

Overall, he conceded 15 goals in the group stage of the tournament making Manchester United the first English club to concede as much in Champions League.

Despite facing a barrage of criticisms for his error-ridden goalkeeping that has contributed to Man United’s dismal run this season, Andre Onana is pretty unmoved as he admits mistake is part of leaning and he is gradually getting on his game with his new club.

Speaking with SkySport, he said;

“Mistakes are part of learning,” he started.

“We know that people expect a lot from me and that’s why they criticise me so much. But for me it’s not a problem, I’m used to it. The same thing also happened at Inter: at the beginning they criticised me, but look how it ended,”

Onana has been Erik ten Hag’s first choice goalkeeper despite the numerous blunders. However, the 27-year-old may likely lose his first team role to his backup Altay Bayindir when he leave for AFCON.

According to reports, Erik ten Hag will not hesitate to hand Bayindir a starting role should he impress on his shift in the absence of Onana.
