French Ligue 1 REACT To Cristiano Ronaldo Disparaging Ligue 1 Remark

French Ligue 1 have responded to an apparent disparaging remark by Cristiano Ronaldo about the French elite division, MySportDab reports.

Ronaldo got tongues wagging when he insisted the Saudi Pro League is better than French Ligue 1. Speaking after bagging a triple gong at the Globe Soccer Awards in United Arabs Emirates, Ronaldo lauded the immense upgrade and growth of the Saudi Pro League in the past two years.

According to him, the Saudi league is gradually growing and will stand strong among the top three football leagues in the world in the next few years.

He also added, the Saudi elite division is more competitive than other leagues in Europe such as French Ligue 1.

Apparently aiming a dig on how PSG have dominated and lorded the French league over other clubs, Ronaldo said it has been a single-team show all the while in France compared to the Saudi league that has a lot of teams competing favorably with others without a clear monopoly by one team.

“The Saudi league is better than French Ligue in terms of competitiveness. Only one team has dominating Ligue 1 but that is not the case in Saudi league where many teams compete earnestly for the title,” Ronaldo said.

Reacting to Cristiano Ronaldo’s apparent dig, French Ligue 1 social media handlers posted a footage of Cristiano Ronaldo’s eternal rival Lionel Messi in PSG shirt while he was at PSG.

At the background, an unfurled banner had a caption, ‘GOAT,’ perfectly scripted in capitals.

The post has be seen as a swipe on Cristiano Ronaldo’s comment as it shows his rival and World Cup winner Lionel Messi playing in the same Ligue the Portuguese said is below the Saudi league.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s influence has arguably contributed to the growth of the Saudi league in the last two years but it is believed the Saudi Pro League is in no way close to the top five or top six leagues in Europe with French Ligue 1 making the cut.
