Manchester United have signed Manchester City’s Omar Berrada as the club’s new Chief Executive Officer, MySportDab reports.
Manchester United confirmed the appointment of Omar Berrada as the club’s new CEO in a club statement which reads;
“Manchester United is pleased to announce the appointment of Omar Berrada as its new CEO,” said a statement from the Old Trafford club.
“The club is determined to put football and performance on the pitch back at the heart of everything we do. Omar’s appointment represents the first step on this journey.”
Berrada’s emergence as Manchester United’s new football chief comes just hours after Manchester City confirmed he has resigned from his role with the club.
City statement on Berrada’s resignation reads;
“Manchester City Football Club can confirm that Omar Berrada has resigned from his role as Chief Football Operations Officer at City Football Group,”
The appointment of Omar Berrada as United new CEO caps the ongoing transition and change of guard at Old Trafford following the club’s co-ownership deal with Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Recall Manchester United former CEO Richard Arnold ended his sixteen-year stint as Manchester United CEO when Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25% ownership bid for Manchester United was about to be ratified by the club’s board.
As expected, the emergence of Sir Jim Ratcliffe as United’s partial owner in charge of the club’s footballing and sporting operations led to the resignations of some of the club’s top officials.
Omar Berrada will fill the void left by Richard Arnold and will be expected to recreate his football masterplan that saw Manchester City emerge as one of the most successful clubs in English and European football.
A brief profile of Omar Berrada
Omar Berrada has been at the reins of Manchester City’s footballing operations and planning for 13 years. He worked with Barcelona in Spain before joining Manchester City in 2011, a landmark moment that heralded a turning point in Manchester City’s footballing fortunes.
Berrada has been credited for the major leap and developmental strides recorded by Manchester City in the past years since assuming the role of Chief Football Operations Officer at the club.
His appointment as Manchester United new Football Chief is regarded as another big and prudent move by Sir Jim Ratcliffe as he aims to transform Man United’s footballing fortunes.
