Former Liverpool manager Rapha Benitez has hinted on why Jurgen Klopp suddenly announced his decision to step down from his role as Liverpool manager at the end of the season, MySportDab reports.

Klopp revealed he will step down at the end of the season to end his nine-year stint with the club.

The former Mainz and Borussia Dortmund manager said he is ‘running out of energy’ to continue on the Red’s dugout as manager, hence the decision to step down.

‘I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it.

‘It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now,” he said.

There have been projections on why Jurgen Klopp suddenly decided to call it a quit at Liverpool. The German gaffer committed to Liverpool with a new contract till 2025.

He was expected to see off his contract and possibly pen down a new deal having won the support and confidence of the club’s hierarchy.

Unconfirmed reports says a possible miscue between Klopp and Liverpool’s inner circle must have lead to the German to step down.

Nevertheless, Klopp chose to keep things modest as he admitted he loves the club and cherishes the support of the club’s officials despite a difficult run last season.

While the 56-year-old may take a more professional stance to glossed up differences that would have warranted his exit, former Liverpool manager Rapha Benitez has hinted on why the German tactician chose to step down at the end of the season.

Rapha Benitez downplayed the surprise of Jurgen Klopp’s resignation, saying he is not surprised having been in Jurgen Klopp’s shoes as Liverpool manager.

”I have an advantage, which is that I have people in Liverpool and also people at the club,” he said.

”So more or less, I know how it has happened. I know something else from inside, and it has more merit than being there.

”He [Klopp] goes and speaks up, giving the club time to re-organise, which, from another perspective, is also very German, because they do notify in advance.

”So it is not a shock,” Benitez added as quoted by Daily Mail.

Benitez coached Liverpool for six years winning the FA Cup, Community Shield, and Champions League.

He is currently Celta Vigo manager in La Liga and has managed other top European clubs.
