David De Gea has taken a huge decision on his football future as he continues to wait for a fresh challenge, MySportDab reports.
The Manchester United legend is yet to take up a new challenge after his Manchester United contract expired in June 2023.
The 33-year-old decided to call it a quit with United after new manager Erik ten Hag tossed him around with double contract offer with reduced wages.
While the Spaniard was eager to stay put with United despite the reduced wage offer, the club’s decision to withdraw a first offer and further pegged down the offer was the last straw that broke the camel’s, back with the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper chosing to exit the club as a free agent after a 12-year heroic stint.
European giants Bayern Munich and Inter Milan were some of the clubs who were interested in signing David de Gea but could not agree terms with the player.
He was also linked to Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr reportedly ready to splash a lucrative contract offer for the player but were turned down as he wanted to stay put in Europe.
Recently, following Newcastle United’s blow with Nick Pope’s injury, De Gea was shortlisted as a possible replacement option for the England shotstopper before the club chose to stick with Nick Pope’s backup Martin Dubravka.
However, the club are still said to be interested in De Gea but would want him to take a wage cut. Other Premier League outfits ate also fancying a move for De Gea but it appears the door to Premier League return has been closed by David De Gea.
According to the Sun, sources close to the legendary goalkeeper have revealed he has decided to entertain only offers from La Liga clubs as he wants to stay in his native Spain.
Some La Liga clubs have expressed interests in signing De Gea with Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao making the list. He has also been linked to a return to Atletico Madrid but could face a stiff competition beating Jan Oblak to the number one spot.
While awaiting new offers, De Gea has been spotted on several individual training sessions to keep in shape.
