Real Madrid settled for a dramatic 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the Madrid Derby, MySportDab reports.
It was a cracker as the two La Liga top sides locked horns in a rollercoaster La Liga match. A win would have seen Real Madrid extend their lead on top of the La Liga to five points.
Los Blancos missed out on a chance to hit their seventh straight win in La Liga against the fierce cross-city rivals but are still top of the La Liga table, going two points clear of Girona.
The hosts kicked off proceedings against Diego Someone’s side with a bang after a series of sustained offensives against the visitors. Brahima Diaz came up clutch with a cool 20th-minute finish to give Real Madrid the lead.
The goal was enough to send the home side into the lead before the break. Atletico Madrid upped their game in the second half, pushing hard for an equaliser. Immediately after the interval, Savic found the back of the net for the visitors but the goal was chalked off as Koke was found to be offside in the build-up.
Real Madrid were still leading and were close to victory as the game neared the end but Atletico Madrid staged a dramatic late comeback to deny the hosts.
Llorente was the late poster boy for Diego Someone’s side and Carlo Ancelotti’s nightmare. The Spaniard scored a 93rd-minute goal to force the La Liga title hopefuls to surrender two points at the death.
Picking on Memphis Depay’s flick, Llorente thumped in a brilliant header pass Lunin to make it 1-1.
The goal was enough to peg Real Madrid back to a point as it ended squares at full-time. Real Madrid will now take on title challengers Girona in what could be a title-decider on Saturday.
A win against Girona will see the European giants edge close to the La Liga title as they will open a five-point lead on top of the table.
