England national team manager Gareth Southgate has disagreed with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag manager on the best role for fast-rising midfield sensation Kobbie Mainoo, MySportDab reports.
Mainoo, 18, has been a regular in Erik ten Hag’s Man United lineup since his big break into the first team last season. The Stockport-born England youth player has earned widespread acclaim for his impressive and standout performances for Manchester United that has gone beyond his age.
He is currently being considered for a place in England senior national team by Gareth Southgate, thanks to his stellar outing so far with the Red Devils.
However, Gareth Southgate has hinted at a different role for Kobbie Mainoo if he chooses to recruit him into the Three Lions squad.
According to him, Mainoo can be played better as an attacking midfielder instead of a defensive midfielder – a role he is currently playing in the Man United squad under Erik ten Hag.

Southgate insisted he expects Mainoo to develop into a full-blown attacking midfielder away from his defensive role with his elaborate attacking flair.
“He’s doing brilliantly. I’m not certain he’s necessarily going to be a defensive midfielder, as such.
“He’s quite a progressive player but he’s had a fabulous start to his career and it will be good to monitor him as we go forward,” Southgate said.
Mainoo pulled off a sensational individual effort to score his first Premier League goal for Manchester United as he netted a brilliant late winner against Wolves at the Molineux. He is regarded as a player for the future for Manchester United with the club preparing a new contract for the player.
MySportDab understands Ghana FA are also making moves to win the youngster over to the Black Stars of Ghana amidst interest by England.
