Harry Maguire Set For Trial For Alleged Assault And Bribery

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is finally set to face trial for alleged assault and bribery, MySportDab reports.

Maguire and his sister Daisy were reportedly on a holiday at Mykonos back in 2020 when a brawl reportedly broke out.

According to reports, some thugs wanted to spike Maguire’s sister Daisy leading to the brawl which involved the Man United player.

After the brawl, Maguire was indicted by the Greek authorities and arrested. During the process of the arrest, Greek Police claimed Maguire allegedly attempted to bribe his way through and also assaulted police officers.

Maguire pleaded not guilty to the charges but was tried and found guilty. He was sentenced to a 21-month suspended sentence but he appealed and won the case.

After the appeal, Greek prosecutors moved for a retrial. The 30-year-old was set for a retrial but technical issues led to a delay.

There were speculations he may never return to Greece again for the retrial with the clock ticking towards 2028 when the statutes of limitations, barring further prosecution on him, would have set in.

Now, it has been confirmed he will be retried on March 25, 2025, before the statute of limitation in 2028.

In an interview with Mail Sport, Greek prosecuting lawyer Yannis Paradisis said there is no chance that Maguire will escape with the statute of limitations by 2028, insisting the matter will be tried before then.

‘It will come to court,’ said Paradisis. ‘There is an eight-year statute of limitation from the date of the crime but we still have time for that.

‘They (the Maguire camp) are waiting for their day in court. Hopefully, there are no other strikes,” Yannis Paradisis said.

The Mail confirms Maguire will travel to Greece to clear his name on March 25, 2025.
