Ronwen Williams was the hero for the Bafana Bafana of South Africa as his goalkeeping heroics fired the Bafana Bafana into 2023 AFCON semifinals, MySportDab reports.

A heated Quarterfinal clash against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde ended squares after 120 minutes. Both sides failed to find the back and needed shoot-outs to separate the tie.

South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made headlines for his superlative and terrific saves for the Bafana Bafana.

 

Williams became the first goalkeeper in football history to save four spot-kicks against their opponents. The former SuperSport United player saved Cape Verde’s first spot-kick; saved the second; saved the third, and the last spotkick to see through South Africa to the next round of the competition.

Who is Ronwen Williams? 

Ronwen Williams, 32, is a South African soccer player, playing as a goalkeeper for South African club Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa national team.

He is the captain of South Africa national team being one of the oldest players in the squad. Williams made his debut for the Bafana Bafana in 2014 and has won 37 caps with the team.

He has had his entire career playing for two South African clubs SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns. His penalty heroics will go down in the history of the game as one of the most legendary goalkeeping performance by a goalie.

The Mamelodi Sundowns shotstopper’s heroics has accorded him widespread acclaim, helping South Africa reach their first AFCON semifinals in over a decade.
