It is no news Dani Alves has been sentenced to four-and-half years in prison for sexual assault and rape, MySportDab reports.

It is a dark end to a once-glittering career of a football legend known for his iconic and faultless performances on the field.

Regarded as one of the best right backs in football history, Dani Alves’ career was flustered with both club and national trophies, including individual honors.

He was the most decorated football defender ever, having pulled a record 42 club and national trophies in a heroic career that spanned 20 years.

Alves was edging close to the twilight of his career when he signed for Mexican outfit Puma after spells with some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Sadly, his two-year contract with Puma was terminated in the wake of the rape and sexual assault scandal.

It all started in December 2022 when the Barcelona legend went on a regular luxury bender in a nightclub in Barcelona.

During the event, Dani Alves and his friends are said to have been drunk but it later turns out Alves was setting himself on a cliff that will roll back his career gains drastically and plunge him into a catastrophe of a lifetime.

After the event, reports emerged he had allegedly assaulted and raped a woman in the bathroom during the event.

On January 2023, he was arrested by Spanish police and detained for trial sequence to the rape allegations.

According to ESPN, Dani Alves has changed the ‘rape narrative’ five times before his conviction.

First, he denied knowing the woman in question. Secondly, he said he actually met the woman in the bathroom but did not do anything with her.

After forensic evidence emerged, Dani Alves changed the narrative for the third time saying he actually had sex with the woman but it was consensual. Fourthly, he admitted he lied about not having sex with the woman to cover his infidelity to his wife.

Shortly before the trial, which took three days to be concluded, ESPN also added Alves lied for the fifth time before the judgment.

It was evident from the foregoing he had little or no chance of escaping conviction.

Details of his penalty as handed down by the judge reveal he will be imprisoned for four-and-a-half years, and will be placed on supervision for five years after his release.

He is also not allowed to communicate with the victim for nine years and six months upon his release and will pay €150,000 as compensation to the victim.
