Brazil Legend Robinho Sentenced To Nine-year Jail Term For Rape

Manchester City legend and former Brazil footballer Robinho has been sentenced to nine years in prison for rape, MySportDab reports.

While playing for AC Milan in Italy’s top flight, Robinho was reportedly among nine men who allegedly assaulted an Albanian woman in a nightclub in Milan in 2013.

He was arrested and prosecuted by Italian authorities and was found guilty in 2017.

In 2022, Italian authorities asked for the extradition of Robinho in lieu of his sentence.

Since he was found guilty in Italy in 2017, Robinho could not be arrested as he was back in Brazil, his homeland, where he signed a new contract with his boyhood club Santos.

However, there was a public outcry against his contract with Santos with the club’s major sponsors pulling out before Santos terminated his contract.

In 2022, Italian authorities moved to have Robinho arrested in Brazil through extradition proceedings.

This led to the beginning of legal proceedings against the former footballer by Brazil Supreme Court of Justice before his arrest.

Now, Brazilian outlet, Globo, revealed nine out of the 15 justices at the Brazil Supreme Court of Justice voted for a nine-year jail term for Robinho after deliberations.

This means will be finally arrested on his home soil in Santos, where he is currently living, after Italy’s long legal proceedings against the player.

However, it is not the end of the road for Robinho He is reportedly set to appeal the judgment as he has maintained he is innocent.
