Dani Alves has been freed from prison for the first time in 14 months following his rape charge and conviction, MySportDab reports.

Alves, 40, saw his career gains take a wild tumble after he was charged for raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.

In January 2023, he was pinned down by Spanish police following the allegations and charged to court for rape and sexual assault.

The legendary defender previously denied knowing the victim in question before he made a U-turn saying he knew her but had consensual sex with her following the emergence of forensic evidence.

In February 2022, Dani Alves was found guilty by Catalonia court and sentenced to life behind bars for four-and-a-half years, a nine-year parole, £150,000 compensation fine to the victim, and an injunction from communicating with the victim.

Despite his conviction, Dani Alves has insisted he is innocent and has decided to appeal the judgment by the Catalonia court.

Throughout his trial which lasted for three months, Dani Alves filed several bail requests but was turned down as he was considered a flight risk by the court.

However, after his conviction, his bail request was finally granted pending his appeal but he was to pay a €1m bail bond as ordered by the court.

MySportDab gathers that Dani Alves had footed the bail bond and has been freed for the first time in 14 months.

However, it has been learned that his passport has been seized from him as part of the bail condition and he will spend his first day as a free man at his home in Barcelona.

His legal counsel will now process his appeal as he walks free following his release on bail.
