Luis Enrique has cleared the air on Kylian Mbappe after the player raised eyebrows when he was subbed off in the second half of the Ligue 1 match against Monaco, MySportDab.
Speaking in post-match press conference, Luis Enrique insisted he took the decision to sub off Kylian Mbappe as PSG must learn how to play without the player.
According to him, he is exploring the best option for the team as they prepare to lose Mbappe at the end of the season.
“I have been in football long enough, you should know that everything is important in this kind of club.
“Sooner rather than later, we will play without Mbappé so I’m looking for the best option for the team.
“Sometimes I’m right, sometimes I’m wrong. We need to get used to it [playing without Mbappé]. I will do what is best for my team. I don’t want to create controversy, it’s my decision,” Enrique said.
Mbappe told PSG last month that he will leave the club when his current contract expires at the end of the season.
He is in advanced talks with Real Madrid and is closing in on switching to the spanish capital, as per Fabrizio Romano.
Since Mbappe informed PSG he will leave, Luis Enrique has ensured his game time is reduced. It is the second time he has subbed off the player midway into PSG match.
In PSG’s 1-1 draw against Rennes, Mbappe was subbed off in the 65th minute and has now gotten his minutes slashed again against Monaco.
While coming off against Monaco, Mbappe headed straight to the changing room, took down his PSG jersey, and dressed up on mufti before taking to stands to sit with his mother and his representatives instead of joining his teammates on the bench.
He watched the last 45 minutes of the game on the stands, refusing to share the bench with his teammates.
With his days at PSG numbered, Mbappe is more likely to see out his remaining matches for the club with cameos on and off the bench.
