Ian Maatsen opted to leave Chelsea on loan during the January window despite him wanting to stay with the club.
For the duration of the 2022/23 season, he played on loan with Burnley where he was impressive before making his return.
He was expected to form a new face under the new era at Stamford Bridge following the sale of Chelsea to Todd Beohly and his partners.
His time with the club for the first phase of the season saw him mostly coming in from the bench which wasn’t pleasing for him.
Maatsen had to make a move happen but signed a new deal before making the loan move to Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the season.
The player revealed why he opted for a loan move according to reports reaching us from Fabrizio Romano today.
Here Is What Was Said:
“My plan was to stay at Chelsea but with the pressure they are under it is sometimes difficult for a manager to let everyone play…”.
“I understand that on manager’s point of view. But I want to play football”.
The move to Borussia Dortmund is paying off as he seems to have established himself as a regular and already hit the ground running.
Chelsea believe they can command a huge fee from Ian Maatsen sale which they could be looking to explore when the summer window open for business.
