Vinicius Jr went sober and was down to tears as he recounts his experience with racism in Spain, MySportDab reports.
Speaking in Brazil’s post-match press conference ahead of the friendly against Spain, the 23-year-old said he just wanted to play and enjoy football; play for his club and his family, and not see black people suffer.
According to him verbal racism has been a big issue in the sport, not only in Spain but everywhere in the world, and each day, he went back home sad feeling disappointed by incessant racist attacks.
“Verbal racism happens not only in Spain, but also throughout the world. Every day I go home I feel sadder. Nobody is supporting me.
“Sorry, I just want to play football, do everything for my club and my family.”
When asked whether he had ever contemplated leaving Spain due to racism, the Real Madrid sensation replied in the negative, saying it would mean that the racists, who he believed, are the minority, have won.
“I have never thought about leaving Spain, because that would be giving the racists what they want. I’m not going to leave the best club in the world,” he said defiantly. “The racists are a minority; I’m going to remain firm and strong because the president and the club support me.”
Vinicius Jr has been the most targeted black player by some racist fans in LaLiga. He has skimmed through racial abuses during games with his club Real Madrid frequently standing up for the player.
In one of the most serious cases which occured at the Mestalla Stadium in a LaLiga match against Valencia, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez met with the 23-year-old to assure him of the club’s unflinching support.
Recently, the club have filed a case with Spain’s attorney against some racist fans, who hurled racial abuses on the player during Atletico Madrid Champions League match against Inter Milan in Spain.
