Bayern Munich and Liverpool are locked in a tight race to poach high-flying Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, MySportDab reports.

The two clubs are set to part ways with their managers in the summer. Bayern Munich agreed to end their collaboration with Thomas Tuchel last month following the club’s dwindling fortunes at the domestic and European scene.

Liverpool are set to lose Jurgen Klopp in the summer after the latter announced in January he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Xabi Alonso

Liverpool have reportedly written Bayer Leverkusen requesting permission to enter into talks with Xabi Alonso to replace Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have identified the Spaniard as a top candidate to step into the shoes of Klopp following his giant strides with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

While the Premier League outfit are hopeful of closing a deal for Alonso, reports from Germany claim Bayern Munich are a step ahead in the move for Alonso as well.

Bayern have reportedly opened talks with Alonso in what could be a big blow to Liverpool’s interest in the 42-year-old.

Xabi Alonso

With the two European giants jarring for the signatory of Alonso in the summer, the Spaniard’s choice will have a huge bearing on his next stop should he decide to leave Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

According to Sky Sport Deutschland, Xabi Alonso is reportedly favoring a move to Bayern Munich instead of Liverpool.

The report adds Alonso considers Liverpool job far more difficult than Bayern Munich’s, and it will be more difficult for him to easily step into Jurgen Klopp’s shoes than he would at Bayern Munich.

He is also reportedly hoping to count on his managerial experience in the Bundesliga to take on the Bayern job.
