Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi has etched his name in the annals of Super Eagles history, becoming the player with the fourth-highest number of English Premier League appearances after featuring in Fulham’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage, MySportDab Reports.
Iwobi’s journey in the Premier League spans nine years, beginning with his debut for Arsenal, where he spent four seasons before joining Everton in 2019.
After four seasons with Everton, the 27-year-old made a move to Fulham last summer, where he has continued to be a mainstay in the squad.
In his latest outing against Crystal Palace, Iwobi showcased his versatility and influence on the pitch, contributing significantly to Fulham’s victory.
Starting the game and playing the full 90 minutes, Iwobi’s performance was notable, registering 42 touches, a 75% pass accuracy, and two crucial tackles.
The win against Crystal Palace marked Iwobi’s 250th appearance in the Premier League, surpassing former teammate John Obi Mikel, who had previously held the fourth position with 249 appearances, all for Chelsea.
With this milestone, Iwobi now sets his sights on surpassing Yakubu Aiyegbeni, who holds third place with 252 appearances.
However, he still trails behind Shola Ameobi, who leads the pack with the highest number of Premier League appearances for Nigerian players.
As Iwobi continues to add to his impressive tally, his contribution to Nigerian football’s legacy in the Premier League remains significant.
With his consistency and dedication over the years, Iwobi exemplifies the talent and resilience of Nigerian footballers on the global stage.
