Reactions As Andre Onana Uses Vaseline On Goalkeeper Gloves During 2-2 Draw With Liverpool

Manchester United fans were baffled with the club’s goalkeeper Andre Onana after he was spotted using Vaseline on his goalkeeper gloves during 2-2 draw with Liverpool, MySportDab reports.

In footage that has been making the rounds on social media, the Cameroonian shotstopper could he seen rubbing the synthetic petroleum jelly on his gloves.

The gesture has been met with a barrage of reactions, especially from United fans.

A fan wrote, “why is Andre Onana using the Vaseline on his gloves?”

Another fan cracked a joke on the goalkeeper’s gesture, cautioning him not to concede. “Buddy, don’t concede oh,” he wrote.

Another fan said, “it is going to be long way for us today against Liverpool. Our goalkeeper is relying on Vaseline.”

While United fans were pessimistic and overly disapproving of Onana’s antics, MySportDab learnt it was not the first time Andre Onana has used Vaseline as he did so in United’s Premier League match with West Ham earlier this season.

It is also understood the former Inter Milan goalie is not the first goalkeeper to use vaseline. According to Keeper Balm, goalkeepers use Vaseline to aid their ball saving abilities as the product strengthens the holding power of the glove, especially on wet conditions.

However, experts say the vaseline corrodes the latex of the gloves and quickly gets it worn out.

Liverpool completely dominated Manchester United in the game, firing 14 attempts and leading by a lone goal before the break.

United, who failed to register a single attempt on target in the first half, luckily fought back to level terms through Bruno Fernandes’ long-range goal from 50 yards after he intercepted Quansah’s loose back pass.

Against the run of play, Kobbie Mainoo scored a beautiful curled effort to give United the lead.

Six minutes to regulation time, Salah scored from the spot to draw the game level. Onana drowned the vaseline saga and made strings of spectacular saves to keep United in the game as the Red Devils ran out with a point against the title-hopefuls.
