Arsenal have been held at home by Bayern Munich in 2023/24 Champions League quarterfinal first leg, MySportDab reports.
It was a blockbuster Champions League showdown as the two sides renewed hostilities at the Emirates Stadium for a place in the last four of the competition.
Arsenal started the game on the front foot and were the better side throughout the game.
After a sustained pressure on the visitors, Bukayo Saka opened the scoring for the home side. The England star latched on Ben White’s pass, braved into Bayern Munich’s box, held out his marker, and curled a superb finish into the far corner to give the Gunners the lead.
Bayern Munich stepped up their game after Arsenal’s goal and had the lead shortlived six minutes later. Serge Gnabry scored the equaliser for the visitors after he latched onto Sane’s pass and screw a low shot past David Raya.
With the scores standing at 1-1, Arsenal ramped up attempts to return to the lead but were dealt a big blow when William Saliba conceded a penalty, bringing down Leroy Sane in the box.
Harry Kane did the needful, converting the spot-kick with a cool finish to hand Bayern Munich an unlikely lead.
It ended 2-1 at the break with Arsenal trailing despite a superior first-half performance.
The second was no different from the first as Arsenal continued on their dominant performance.
Bayern Munich settled for the low blocks while hoping to catch out the Gunners on counterattacks. Despite sustained pressure on the visitors’ defence, it was a near-deadlock for Arsenal in Bayern Munich’s final third.
The Bavarians’ resolute defensive display denied the Gunners a chance to find a leveler before substitute Leandro Trossard finally broke the deadlock.
In the 76th minute, the former Brighton star latched on Gabriel Jesus pass to fire a first-time finish past Manuel to make it 2-2.
With 14 minutes left on the clock, the Gunners continued on their dominant display but could not add to the tally as the game finally ended in a 2-2 draw.
It was a fair result for both sides with a lot to play for in the second leg of the encounter in Germany next week.
