Real Madrid have extended the lead on top of the LaLiga table with a narrow 1-0 victory over Mallorca, MySportDab reports.
The Los Blancos went into the game with an eight-point lead over arch-rivals Barcelona and had hoped to extend the lead with nothing less from a win against the home side.
It was a near-deadlock for the LaLiga title hopefuls as they struggled to break through Mallorca’s brink wall defence going forward despite a commanding spell of possession.
Mallorca equally produced a spirited and competitive response, trying to match the visitors’ attack with counterattacks. It was a deadlock for both sides in each other’s final third and they settled for a barren draw in the first half.
Real Madrid got off the mark quickly in the second half. Aurelien Tchouameni scored three minutes into the second 45 to give the visitors the lead.
After conceding, Mallorca began to emerge from the low block and commit more bodies forward to mount a response but were tamed upfront.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid continued on the ascendancy and came across a series of chances that would have counted for the second goal but they could not convert them.
With a few minutes left to play, Mallorca made a late determined push to find an equaliser but were held off by Real Madrid’s brink wall defense.
The visitors held on till the final whistle and finally got the better of the hosts, thanks to Aurelien Tchouameni’s lone goal.
The win has seen the LaLiga giants move 11 points clear of Barcelona, who will hope to cut down the point arrears when they take on Cadiz in their outstanding game.
