Jason Wilcox Resigns From Southampton Amid Man United Interest

All is now set for Jason Wilcox to join Manchester United as new technical director, MySportDab reports

United, under the aegis of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team, have been in the hunt for a technical director as they set sights on revamping United footballing aspect.

Newcastle United director Dan Ashworth was on the radar for Ratcliffe but he was  dealt a blow as Newcastle refused to budge in their decision not to let Ashworth leave.

While the England football expert was keen on the Old Trafford job with Sir Jim’s impressive Man United project plan, Newcastle United deterred him from joining the club by placing him on a gardening leave.

Now, Dan Ashworth’s chances of becoming United’s technical director is closed with the Sir Jim now en route to securing the services of Bolton-born football expert Jason Wilcox.

Manchester United had reportedly made a formal bid to Southampton to pay Wilcox’s compensation fee and secure the services of the former Manchester City Academy Coach but met a grudging response from Southampton.

Wilcox had joined Southampton last summer and was crucial to the team’s push for a return to the English topflight, hence, the club were unhappy with the timing of United’s move.

While the Saints were ready to reject United’s advances, Jason Wilcox was reportedly eager to join Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s impressive Man United project.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 53-year-old has resigned from his role at Southampton to push through a move to Manchester United.

This means United will not to pay any compensation to Southampton with Wilcox now set to join for free.

The 53-year-old is the second high-profile recruitment by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, joining Omar Berrada who was poached from Manchester City

Jason Wilcox made a name for himself as a football technical director while he was working at Manchester City for 11 years before joining Southampton in 2023.

He oversaw the rise of City young starlets such as Cole Palmer, who is now playing for Chelsea, Rico Lewis, Oscar Bobb, and Phil Foden.
