Barcelona have set their eyes on a top Liverpool forward as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski in the summer, MySportDab reports.

Lewandowski, who has two years left on his Barcelona contract, could leave in the summer.

The Polish striker’s €360, 577 weekly wages has reportedly taken a toll on the club’s dwindling fortunes, limiting their transfer activities.

Meanwhile, since joining the club in 2022, Barcelona seemed to have fallen off commensurate sporting success.

With the 2024/25 season at the corner, Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez is reportedly planning to navigate the taut financial and transfer limitations and make a couple of signings to turn around the club’s misfortunes.

Releasing Robert Lewandowski will allow the club take a breather from the strangulating transfer limitations and could make room for a couple of signings to boost performance next season.

It will  take his salary off the wage books while also making some funds available for transfers, and Xavi is bent on reinforcing the squad no matter who could pay the price by exiting the club due to heavy wage bill.

According to the Sun, Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has been identified as a potential target to replace Lewandowski in the summer should the Catalans part ways with the 2022/23 LaLiga top scorer.

Darwin Nunez has struck 18 times for Liverpool across all competitions but is still not considered in the class of Robert Lewandowski due to his inconsistent run-ins for Liverpool.

Nevertheless, the Uruguayan’s relatively low wage and growing capabilities in front of goal have reportedly attracted the fancy of Xavi Hernandez who is bent on reinforcing the squad in the summer with new signings.
