Clutch Erling Haaland was all Manchester City needed to breeze past Wolves at Etihad and tank up pressure on Arsenal in the Premier League title race, MySportDab reports.
The Norwegian attacking sensation jumped out of the woods and recreated one of those magical moments he had apparently lost this season against Wolves.
A succession of three goals in the first half saw the former Borussia Dortmund forward record his first-half hat-trick, comprising two spot-kick goals and a fine header.
In the second half, he struck again in the 54th minute to score his first four goals in a single game this season. City would steamroller to a thumping 5-1 victory over Wolves, thanks to the Norwegian’s four-goal haul.
Notably, Erling Haaland’s heroics in the win against Wolves was a stark contrast to his recent downbeat performances for Manchester City.
His worst outing this season was during the barren draw against Arsenal at the Etihad in which he recorded no shot on target, struggled against the Gunners’ hardline defence, and was unproductive in the general play.
After the Arsenal match, Manchester United legend and Premier League pundit Roy Keane said the Norwegian was playing like a ‘League Two’ player against Arsenal, far below expectations from a Premier League player.
“But for his general play for such a player, it is so poor, not just today, I think he has to improve that he’s almost like a League Two player,” Roy Keane had said.
When asked about Roy Keane’s comment after his Wolves masterclass, Haaland seemed to tear into the pundit, saying he doesn’t care about what ‘that man (Roy Keane)’ says.
‘’I don’t really care that much about that man, so that’s all right,’ Haaland said. ‘I don’t care, we just have to win our games, and now, relax tonight and focus on Fulham,” he said.
Haaland will be expected to play a crucial role as City hope to pip Arsenal to the title race by winning their final three matches of the season.
