Enzo Maresca is set to become Chelsea’s new manager, replacing Mauricio Pochettino in the Blues’ dugout.

He played for 11 different clubs during his playing career

Enzo Maresca had a heroic playing career that spanned 19 years across 11 different clubs. He started his playing career in 1998 playing for West Bromwich Albion and ended with Hellas Verona in 2017.

In-between the two clubs, he played for Juventus, Bologna, Placenza, Fiorentina, Sevilla, Olympiacos, Malaga, Sampdoria, and Palermo.

He never played for Italy’s senior national team

Enzo Maresca had a rich career in club football, playing for some of the biggest Football Clubs in Europe, across top leagues but he never tasted international football at the senior level.

He played for Italy U15, U16, U17, U18, U20, and U21, but was never called for the senior national team. His international career ended with Italy U21 in 2002.

He is a Cagliari Academy graduate but had his senior appearance in England

Maresca graduated from Cagliari Academy as a professional footballer but never made a senior appearance for the club.

His first professional appearance in football was at English side West Bromwich Albion in 1998. He made 45 league appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals.

He worked with Pep Guardiola as assistant manager

With Chelsea now set for a new beginning with Enzo Maresca, Pep Guardiola will have two of his former assistants managing the two biggest clubs in London and the Premier League.

Just like Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta who worked with Guardiola as an assistant before leaving for Arsenal, Maresca worked with Guardiola as well from 2021 to 2022 before he left to join Leicester City as manager.
