Manchester United’s plan for Mason Greenwood has been confirmed, MySportDab reports.
The future of the English winger has been a subject of speculation as he edged close to the end of his short-term loan deal with Getafe.
Mason Greenwood saw his promising Man United career grind to a halt after he was arrested for alleged rape, sexual assault, and, controlling behavior in 2022.
After months of facing a marathon of court hearings, charges against him were dropped by the Crown Prosecuting Council due to the withdrawal of witnesses to the case.
United opted to bar the player from returning to the team pending internal investigations into the case despite the dropped charges.
After internal investigations, Greenwood was still cleared but Manchester United, under the leader of former CEO Richard Arnold, opted to have him continue his career away from Old Trafford to pacify fan groups protesting against the integration of the player back into the team.
At the stroke of the transfer window, United reached an agreement to loan the player to Getafe, and he has been on a prolific form for the Azulones since his return.
With just two months left on his loan contract, he has been linked to other LaLiga clubs interested in his services, including a possible return to Old Trafford.
Man United new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe fueled reports of Mason Greenwood’s imminent return when he said in his maiden press conference the club is ready to reconsider a decision on the young footballer as he is still a Man United player.
Meanwhile, it is understood Getafe have been in talks with United to extend Mason Greenwood’s loan tenure following his impressive shift with the club.
Now, according to Getafe President Angel Torres, who confirmed ongoing talks with United to re-sign the player, Manchester United want to sell Mason Greenwood permanently.
When asked about Getafe’s interest, Correa said to Mundo Deportivo;
“If it depends on the boy and the parents, he will continue another year.
“Manchester, the news we have from last week, the thing is that if there is a good offer they would like to sell.”
Greenwood has one year left on his Manchester United contract. United risk losing the young player on a free transfer if they don’t sell him permanently this summer.
Another likely option will be triggering the one-year extension clause on his contract before another loan deal to buy time for a permanent exit solution of no permanent deal is reached this summer.
