Chelsea star Cole Palmer has been voted the winner of the 2023/24 Premier League Young Player of the Season, MySportDab reports.
The Manchester City Academy graduate has been in the form his life, scoring goals week-in and week-out since he joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023.
Palmer saw off the competition from a list of seven other nominees’ featuring Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Manchester City duo Phil Foden and Erling Haaland, Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, Arsenal duo William Saliba and Bukayo Saka, and Tottenham Hotspur star Destiny Udogie.
Palmer was tipped to win the award following his standout debut campaign with Chelsea in the Premier League. The 22-year-old has recorded 32 goal contributions for the Blues – the joint-highest tally recorded by a Premier League player this season.
According to premierleague.com, Palmer is the third player after Chris Sutton and Robbie Fowler to register more than 30 goal contributions in a single season in Premier League history at the age of 21.
Moreover, the English forward’s remarkable campaign has seen him occupy the second spot in both the Premier League topscorers’ chart and most assists this season.
He trails Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race with 22 goals and only behind Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins in the race for the Playmaker of the season with 10 assists.
Since the inception of the Premier League Young Player of the Season Award in the 2019/20 season, Cole Palmer is the first Chelsea player to win the award and the first to also compete for both the Young Player of the Season Award and the Best Player of the Season Award.
Palmer broke Manchester City’s dominance of the award in the past three seasons, seeing off the past winners – Phil Foden ( who won the award in 2020/21 and 2021/22 season) and Erling Haaland (who won the award in 2022/23 season) – to clinch the award.
The award has capped what has been a magical and meteoric rise by the player since he joined Chelsea last summer.
