Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has announced his decision to stay off social media after what has been his most ‘challenging’ season with Manchester United, MySportDab reports.

Taking to his social media handle, the 26-year-old confirmed he will take a break from the microblogging platform ‘for a few weeks’ to ‘rest and reset mentally after a challenging season.’

”It’s time to come off socials for a few weeks.

”I plan to rest and reset mentally after a challenging season individually and collectively. Thanks to the fans that stood by me through a difficult period.

‘To the ones that didn’t just remember at United, we always stick together.”

Rashford’s imminent hibernation from social media is coming a few days after his 74th-minute shift at Wembley helped Manchester United defeat cross-city rivals to win their 13th FA Cup.

The English forward hogged headlines for his fever-pitch reaction to the triumph. He broke down in tears and later took to his social media handle to post an emotional tribute to the club touching his ordeals in the just-concluded campaign.

Sharing a glum-looking footage of himself in Man United shirt, he wrote, ”People want to know what Manchester United means to me.”

His recent decision to completely stay off social media for a while is clearly linked to his disappointing 2023-24 campaign with Manchester United.

Since his break-in into United’s first team in 2015, Rashford recorded his worst campaign with the club, managing 7 league goals with 5 assists – a stark contrast to his personal best in 2022-23 when he recorded 30 goals in all competitions.

His underwhelming performances earned him criticisms from fans and pundits with some blaming the player for United’s worst-ever campaign.

The backlash intensified during his 12-hour tequila bender in Belfast which saw him miss training the next day and was axed from United lineup in the next match.

He came at odds with United manager Erik ten Hag after the incident but United later issuing a statement confirming he has apologized and is back to the team.

Also, for the first time under Gareth Southgate, he was left out of England’s 33-man provisional squad for the 2024 Euros squad in the wake of the below-par performances.

On Saturday, May 25, Rashford turned a corner away from his dwindling fortunes with United to help the club clinch the FA Cup trophy.

It was a healing moment for the player amidst a difficult campaign. And he is hoping to continue with the healing and recovery by taking a break from social media.
