It was a good start and both teams had come in making sure there was a lot they could offer in going forward.

For Benin it was a game of holding back and making use of their pace to beat defenders while making opportunities they could convert.

Nigeria took the lead with a nicely placed strike from Raphael Onyedika who was able to make things 0-1 in the 27th minute as things carried on between them.

The celebration was short-lived as Dossou leveled things in the 37th minute after a failed communication from the Super Eagles saw the home side making it 1-1.

It quickly turned into a bad day after another goal was scored by the home side through Mounie in the additional time as Benin headed for the break with a 2-1 lead against Nigeria.

There was nothing much to be done on the remaining 45 minutes of action which the home side had to lock things up.

Nigeria continued pushing with nothing working for them despite the efforts and opportunities they created going forward.

Benin held on beautifully well as their lead was what was keeping them in the game which hit the hour mark and was in their favor.

Things continued until it came to an end with Benin claiming a 2-1 victory against the Super Eagles of Nigeria sending them further below while the Cheetahs moved top with 7 points.
