Nigeria Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has confirmed his decision on his international future as a deep-seated crisis in the team emerges to the surface, MySportDab reports.
The 35-cap Nigeria international made his debut for the Nigeria national team in 2017 and has gone on to score 21 times for the team. He established himself as one of the finest forwards Nigeria has produced after his goalscoring heroics for Napoli in Italy’s top flight saw the Azurri end their three decades wait for the Serie A title.
In the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, Osimhen was lauded by some African football legends like Didier Drogba and Asamoah Gyan for his incredible work rate.
His contributions saw the Super Eagles reach the final of the tournament where they lost to the tournament’s hosts Cote D’Ivoire.
The 2023 Nation s Cup final would be Osimhen’s last match for the Super Eagles. He had missed four games for the team due to injuries.
However, Super Eagles head coach Finidi George took a swipe at the player after Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers draw against South Africa.
Addressing the media, Findi George said Osimhen chooses the match he wants to play for the Super Eagles and he (Finidi George) cannot beg him to come and play for the Super Eagles.
The draw against South Africa was followed with another disappointing result against Benin Republic in Finidi George’s second competitive match as Super Eagles head coach.
Again, Victor Osimhen was not called up for the match with Nigeria football fans calling for the sack of Finidi as Nigeria nears missing out of 2026 World Cup.
Now, in an explosive video shared on his IG channel (video available at the end of this post), Victor spoke exhaustively on his fallout with Finidi George.
According to him, he had never refused to play for the Super Eagles and had even wanted to come to the camp despite being injured.
On his international future, Osimhen said if his explosive video could warrant him not playing for the Super Eagles again, then so be it.
