Real Madrid Reject Invitation To FIFA Club World Cup

Real Madrid are set to reject FIFA’s invitation for them to join the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the US, MySportDab reports.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the club will reject the invitation by the world’s football governing body to join the tournament because of their paltry monetary offer.

In a quote shared by Fabrizio Romano, Carlo Ancelotti said;

Real Madrid will NOT go to the FIFA World Club, we will reject the invitation like other clubs”.

“Just one single Real Madrid match is worth €20m and they want to give us that money for the whole competition… no way. Negative”, told Il Giornale.

Real Madrid’s position on the much-berated club football tournament reflects the dominant position of most European clubs who have lambasted FIFA for going ahead to schedule the tournament.

Clubs argue FIFA are doing a great disservice to the sports by trying to hold the tournament which is surplus to requirements given the already-congested football calendar.

They added the tournament will put pressure on footballers and affect the overall management of clubs and the entirety of the football ecosystem.

Premier League chief Richard Masters and his LaLiga counterpart Javier Tebas have been at the forefront of strong critics, arguing FIFA are moved by potential monetary gains without caring for the players.

The pair threaten to withdraw their respective clubs from the competition which is set to kick off in June 2025 in the United States.

Reacting to the moves by some domestic FAs to bar their clubs from participating in the competition, sources close to the world football’s governing body reveal attempts to limit domestic leagues to 18 teams instead of 20 teams as adopted by some leagues.

FIFA reportedly believes domestic FAs should be blamed for the said congested fixtures due to their multiple club competitions.
