Copa America 2024: Argentina 2-0 Canada, Albiceleste Qualify For Final [VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]

Argentina have qualified for the final of Copa America 2024 after comfortably edging out Canada in the semi-final at the MetLife stadium, MySportDab reports.

The defending champions left no stone unturned as they got off to a fiery start dominating proceedings.

At the quarter-hour, Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez opened the scoring for the team, no thanks to a rickety Canadian defense.

Going one goal up, it was a no-brainer that the Argentines are set for an easy semi-final triumph. Canada did little to mount a comeback or at best match the Argentine’s cadence in the clash.

The Albiceleste were still leading by a lone goal until the break, thanks to the early strike by Alvarez.

Canada stepped up proceedings in the second half, strongly contesting the tie going forward.

For the Canadian fans, there were hopes of a comeback as the team began to match Argentina’s attacking and defensive paces, including making a bold presence on the rate of possession.

The improved showing saw the game took on a more frantic pace as Argentina battle to defend the lead while hoping to secure it with another goal.

Four minutes before the hour, the game, teetering with uncertainty with Argentina’s slim lead, was settled.

Lionel Mess, who was yet to find the back of the net in the tournament, finally scored to double the lead for the Albiceleste.

It was a game over for Canada at this point, going down by two goals with barely half an hour left to play.

Messi’s goal apparently sealed the win but Canada weren’t ready to give up without a fight. The remaining minutes of the game saw them press harder for a goal but it was a deadlock.

Proceedings ended with Argentina grabbing a deserved 2-0 win to qualify for the final. The Lionel Scaloni-led side will now play the winner of the other semi-final match between Uruguay and Chile.
