Portugal have crashed out of Euro 2024 after losing in the shootouts to France in Germany, MySportDab reports.

In a nail-biting Euro quarter-final clash, the two sides came across some chances to draw the first blood but missed them. Meanwhile, Portugal had a great control of the tempo of the play but were frequently unruffled by France’s quick counters they they lost possession.

A dragging first half saw the two sides settle for a goalless draw with Portugal largely the better side with gameplay but playing second fiddle to France on expected goals.

The second half was a no departure from the first with Portugal still on the ascendancy but it was still a tight affair with no clearcut chance created at the beginning o the second 45.

In a moment that would have twisted the trajectory of the game, Portugal were finally able to find the back of the net towards the end of the game but the goal was chalked.

After barren 90 minutes, the game was forced into extra time and it was still a deadlocked clash for both sides as nothing could be done to separate the tie after 120 minutes.

The game headed into penalties, Cristiano Ronaldo took Portugal’s first spot-kick and scored but France emerged victorious after Joao Cancelo missed his spot-kick with France converting all their five.

It was a disappointing moment for Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe, who apparently have played in their last Euro campaign for Portugal.

France will now take on Spain in the semi-finals of the competition as Portugal crash out.
