Venezuela 1-1 Canada (3-4Penalties), Canada Setup S-Final Clash Vs Argentina [VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]

Canada have edged out Venezuela in Copa America 2024 quarter-final clash, MySportDab reports.

A strongly-contested quarter-final clash saw the two sides settle for a dramatic 1-1 draw before heading into penalties.

Canada drew the first blood in the first half to take the lead, thanks to a 13th-minute strike by Shaffelburg. The goal was enough to separate the two sides.

Venezuela got off to a brilliant start in the second half and were looking set to find a leveler. However, they had to wait until the 65th minute before finally pegging Canada to a draw.

Rondon rose to the occasion for the spirited Venezuelan side , scoring a stunner to level proceedings and tie the game.

With 25 minutes left to play, both sides went profligate with a few created chances and ended up drawing 1-1 after the final whistle.

The game headed into penalties. It was a marathon in the shootouts. The two sides converted their first spot-kicks but missed the second.

In the first five spot-kicks, they both scored three and missed two before heading to the sixth spot-kick where the tie was finally decided as Venezuela missed while the Canada converted theirs.

Proceedings finally ended with Canada winning 4-3 after the shootouts to progress to the next round of the competition while Venezuela crashed out.

They will now face defArgentina, who knocked out Ecuador on penalties as well, in the semi-final of the competition.
