The deal marks the end of David De Gea’s transfer deadlock that has lasted for over a year. After being released from his Manchester United, the 33-year-old had several offers from top European clubs, including interest from Saudi outfits.

Close sources reveal his wage demands was a stumbling block for suitors interested in his services apart from Saudi club, Al-Nassr, who offered him a whooping £500,000 weekly.

Before the recent breakthrough with Fiorentina, he was linked to a move to another Serie A outfit, Genoa, but the rumors were subsequently dispelled by Fabrizio Romano.

David De Gea left Manchester United after 12 years after he fell out of favor in the goalkeeping options of Man United new manager Erik ten Hag.

He was linked to a return to the club on a short-term loan during 2023 AFCON when Andre Onana was about to join Cameroon squad for the African continental showpiece.

However, the move did not materialize. Meanwhile, he was spotted on multiple occasions trying to put himself through paces on individual training sessions while he awaits a new offer.

The legendary goalie will hope to return to elite-level performance and regain momentum in his career after the 12-month deadlock.
