Kelechi Iheanacho Bids Farewell to Leicester City, And Ready For Jesus Navas Reunion

Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho has officially bid farewell to Leicester City, ending his seven-year tenure with the Foxes following the expiration of his contract in June, MySportDab Reports.

The 27-year-old has signed a two-year contract with LaLiga outfit Sevilla, with an option for an additional year. He was unveiled by the Rojiblancos on Tuesday.

In a heartfelt message on social media, Iheanacho expressed his gratitude to Leicester City’s owners, teammates, and fans. “Thank you for the 7 years we shared, I’ll forever cherish our 2021 FA Cup win. Thanks to the owners who brought me to the club, all of my teammates in those years and the amazing Foxes fans. All the best for the new season,” he wrote on X.

Iheanacho’s move to Sevilla marks a new chapter in his career, and he expressed excitement about reuniting with former Manchester City teammate Jesus Navas.

The Nigeria international spent two seasons with Navas at Manchester City before both players left the club in 2017. Navas rejoined his boyhood club Sevilla, while Iheanacho moved to Leicester City.

“Jesus is a legend here. He is an incredible person with a great personality. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s a fantastic leader. He has won many trophies in Sevilla’s history, and I’m looking forward to playing with him,” Iheanacho said on the club’s website.

Last season, Iheanacho played primarily as a fringe player for Leicester City, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 26 appearances as the Foxes returned to the English Premier League.

At Sevilla, however, he is expected to play a more prominent role, especially with the departure of Youssef En-Nesyri.

Reflecting on his goals at Sevilla, Iheanacho emphasized his desire to win trophies with the Andalusian club. “As a player, obviously scoring goals would be great, but the most important thing is to play and win as a team. The most important thing is to win trophies, achieve aims, and have great success,” he added.

Iheanacho could make his LaLiga debut for Sevilla in their first game of the 2024/25 campaign against Las Palmas on Friday, August 16. His arrival adds significant firepower to Sevilla’s attack, and fans will be eager to see how he integrates into the team and contributes to their success.

With this move, Iheanacho joins a club with a rich history and a strong competitive spirit. His experience and skill set are expected to make a significant impact as Sevilla aims for success in both domestic and European competitions.
