Manchester United have made a surprise entry into the race for prolific English forward Ivan Toney, MySportDab reports.
Toney, who has a year left on his Brentford contract, is strongly linked with a move away from the club this summer.
Brentford head coach Thomas Frank dropped the player from the Bees’ opening Premier League match against Crystal Palace due to uncertainties surrounding his future.
With literally two days left to the close of the 2024 transfer window in Europe, Ivan Toney’s transfer proceedings is likely to take a wild twist with Manchester United now in the race for the striker.
Saudi club Al-Ahli have shown long-standing interest in the player and have reportedly submitted an offer to Brentford.
However, the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement for the player. Meanwhile, Chelsea have also been a big mention in the race for Toney with the Blues interested in adding more attacking options to their lineup.
According to The Standard, Manchester United are now the frontrunners in the race for Toney. They have opened talks with Brentford for a deal but there is no offer yet.
United’s sudden swoop for Toney has added another layer of intrigue to Toney’s transfer with Chelsea and Al-Ahli still in the race.
Note that both Chelsea and Manchester United have two days to sign Ivan Toney while Al-Ahli still have until October when Saudi transfer window will close.
Toney will be Manchester United’s second forward signing this summer after Joshua Zirkzee should the Red Devils close a deal with Brentford for the player.
