Stanley Nwabali Signs Three-Year Contract with Chippa United, Named New Team Captain

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Bobo Nwabali has committed his future to Chippa United, signing a new three-year contract with the South African club, MySportDab Reports.

The 27-year-old, who previously played for Enyimba International, has been rewarded for his exceptional performances during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he solidified his status as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Nwabali was instrumental in Nigeria’s AFCON campaign, recording two clean sheets in three group stage matches and delivering a penalty shootout masterclass in the semi-final against South Africa.

His performances not only helped Nigeria reach the final but also caught the attention of top clubs, including PSL giants Kaizer Chiefs. Chippa United confirmed they received over ten offers from clubs around the globe for Nwabali’s services.

Despite the interest, Nwabali chose to remain with Chippa United, where he will also assume the role of team captain for the upcoming season. This decision ends weeks of speculation about his future and highlights his commitment to the club.

Chippa United released an official statement expressing their satisfaction with Nwabali’s decision: “We are thrilled to announce that Stanley Nwabali has signed an improved three-year contract with Chippa United FC.

His leadership on and off the field has been exemplary, and we believe he is the right person to guide our team through the challenges ahead. We wish Stanley continued success in his career, both in domestic competitions and on the international stage.”

Nwabali’s appointment as captain comes at a pivotal time, as he prepares to join Bruno Labbadia’s Super Eagles squad for the upcoming AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Rwanda and Benin Republic next month. His leadership will be crucial as Chippa United looks to build on their recent successes in the new season.
