Team Nigeria has ended their campaign at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris without securing a single medal, marking a deeply disappointing performance for the nation, MySportdab Reports.
Despite initial hopes pinned on standout athletes such as Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, Blessing Oborodudu, Ruth Usoro, Pristina Ochonogor, and Ogazi, none were able to reach the podium.
The last glimmer of hope for Nigeria came in the wrestling 76kg category, where Hannah Reuben faced Mongolia’s Davaanasan Amar Enkh. Reuben’s valiant effort was not enough, as she was defeated 5-2, officially ending Nigeria’s chances of appearing on the medals table.
This outcome represents Nigeria’s worst performance at the Olympics since the 2012 London Games, where the country similarly failed to secure any medals.
The result is particularly disappointing given the pre-Games optimism surrounding Nigeria’s track and field athletes, including world champion hurdler Tobi Amusan and long jumper Ese Brume, both of whom were expected to challenge for medals.
Nigerian fans and sports officials will now look towards the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles for redemption. The pressure will be on Nigerian athletes to regroup, refine their strategies, and improve their performances on the world stage.
The 2024 Paris Games will be remembered as a missed opportunity for Team Nigeria, and the focus will now shift to future competitions, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2028 Olympics, where the nation will hope to restore its reputation as a competitive force in global sports.
