Randy Waldrum, the coach of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, has expressed his desire to remain in his role despite the team’s underwhelming performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, MySportDab Reports.

The Super Falcons, who made a return to the Olympics after a 16-year absence by defeating South Africa in the qualifiers, struggled in the tournament, losing all three of their group-stage matches against Spain, Brazil, and Japan. The team managed to score just one goal while conceding five.

Despite the disappointing results, Waldrum remains optimistic about the team’s future. He believes that the Super Falcons are on the right track, with promising young talent emerging.

Waldrum has voiced his commitment to continuing as the team’s coach, emphasizing his belief in the potential of the current squad.

“I would like to stay on. I love the team. I love the direction that we’re headed,” Waldrum shared on social media. “After a rough start here, I think we’re headed in a good direction. There’s a lot of upcoming talent as we start to move some of the older players out after the Olympics and bring in some young talent. I think we can accomplish great things at the next level.”

Waldrum acknowledged that the final decision regarding his future lies with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

He hopes the NFF will take into account the team’s strong performances at the 2023 FIFA World Cup and their successful Olympic qualification when making their decision.

The NFF, under the leadership of President Ibrahim Gusau, has not yet commented on Waldrum’s future with the Super Falcons.

As the team returns home, both fans and officials will be closely monitoring the situation to see if Waldrum’s request for continuity is granted.
