Lee Carsely Confirms Update on Mason Greenwood’s England Return

England interim head coach Lee Carsely has confirmed an update on the future of Mason Greenwood in England nation team, MySportDab reports.

Greenwood, who made his England debut in 2020, winning only one cap, was axed out of the team following his 2022 rape scandal with his girlfriend Harriet Robson.

Under the aegis of the English FA, then England manager Gareth Southgate, who recently called time in his spell as the Three Lions hEad coach, dropped the promising  player from the team due to the weight of the allegations.

Also, Greenwood was frozen out of footballing action for 18 months before he was cleared by United and resettled for a career restart after the charges were dropped.

He made a prolific return to footballing action, first on loan to Getafe and now on a permanent transfer to Olympique Marseille in France.

Meanwhile, his international career with England national team was mangled. At Marseille, Greenwood has proven his mettle with a groundbreaking start to his Ligue 1 campaign.

He is the hottest Ligue 1 forward now, having scored five goals in three matches. The 22-year-old’s insane form has spurn speculations that England may make U-turn on their decision to axed him from the squad but that may not be the case.

Addressing the prospects of having Mason Greenwood return to the England senior national team, England interim manager Lee Carsely made it clear he has no plans to being back Greenwood despite his prolific Ligue 1 form.

“Mason wasn’t a player that we can consider to be honest, no,’ Carsley said ahead of Saturday’s clash with the Republic of Ireland.

‘I’m aware of how he’s doing but he wasn’t under consideration,” he added.

Greenwood has opted to pursue his international career away from England following the deadlock. He is being considered by Jamaica national with the team’s head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson confirming talks with the player.
