Super Eagles interim coach, Austin Eguavoen, has expressed strong confidence in his team’s ability to secure maximum points in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, MySportDab Reports.
The three-time African champions are set to face the Cheetahs of Benin and the Amavubi of Rwanda in their opening fixtures.
As the Super Eagles prepare for these critical encounters, Eguavoen remains optimistic about their chances. Speaking to the team’s media, the former Nigerian international defender emphasized the readiness and strength of his squad, highlighting the quality and depth available at his disposal.
“I am very confident that we will scale through the two games and beyond,” Eguavoen said. “We have the materials, we have the players and personnel, we have the support, we have everything needed to succeed.”
Eguavoen also urged his players to draw inspiration from their recent performances at the last AFCON, where they came close to clinching the title. He encouraged them to use that experience as motivation to reclaim their status as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
“They were almost African champions months ago. It is not even a year yet. What went wrong? They are the ones to turn the table around; it is not bad,” he noted. “I have spoken to them, and we are still going to have a few meetings before the game proper.”
The Super Eagles will kick off their AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign with a match against Benin Republic, followed by a second fixture against Rwanda. With Eguavoen at the helm, the team is poised to start their journey toward AFCON 2025 on a strong note, aiming for nothing less than victory in both encounters.
