Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has blasted his players for an abysmal performance in 2024-25 Europa League opener against FC Twente, MySportDab reports.
The Red Devils settled for a dramatic 1-1 draw against FC Twente in their first match in the second tier club competition in Europe.
Christian Eriksen gave the team the lead five minutes after the half-hour before a defensive blunder saw Lammers found an equalizer for the visitors in the 68th minutes.
Speaking with TNT after the game, Erik ten Hag expressed his frustration for the abysmal performance by the players, insisting they did not give it all in the game.
“We kept them alive when 1-0 up controlling the game and then you have to be consistent and keep going in the second half, we dropped the level and gave a goal away.
”We didn’t finish it off, we had to go for the second goal and they stay alive and we get punished with a mistake from ourselves.
‘The goal it’s a team, the player of Twente can dribble over the whole pitch without being stopped but then can’t give a goal away like this.”
Away from the opening deadlock, United will play FC Porto away from in their second match in the competition.
Meanwhile, the draw against FC Twente means the team have dropped four points in their last two games with Erik ten Hag coming under scrutiny again.
The Dutch has struggled with an unconvincing start to the campaign and will hope to return to winning ways when taking on Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur in their next Premier League match at the weekend.
